Around Formosa in 16 days. My fun Taiwan unfortunately without Janet Hsieh.
It’s hard not to notice the Taipei 101 when you’re in the Taiwanese capital. It’s one of the first things to realize how advanced this country is.
Even with that said, Taipei is still noticeably a cultural hub that values its heritage (well to a certain extent anyway).
I’ve always wanted to be a bull in a china shop, Yingge is the place to be with over 800 shops selling ceramic-wares.
The Sun Moon Lake is probably one of the most popular site among the designated 13 National Scenic Areas. A place for the outdoorsy, here you can go hiking, boating and learn about the aboriginal culture.
Be one with nature and be at awe with the giant Sacred Trees at Alishan.
Taoism, Confucianism and Song Dynasty architecture; Tainan is the keeper of the Southern Chinese traditions in Taiwan. Mix it with some Dutch colonial venture, this city is truly for the history buffs.
Kaohsiung is Taiwan’s second largest city and the country’s largest port. It is a city that is an expert on the subject of Urban Renewal.
Hit the beach on the Pacific coast at Taitung, a typical slow paced town just to bum around.
Hualien is probably one of the most picturesque cities in Taiwan and is definitely more than just a gateway to Taroko.
Taroko National Park. This is one, hikers and cyclist paradise. My favorite place in all of Taiwan.
Gold rush and Japanese colonialism or just come here to enjoy sipping tea in the clouds in this little village called Jiufen.
Get your rocks off in Yehliu Geopark. Great place to be even if you’re not a rock enthusiast.
Keelung is pretty nice port city, but it’s more famous for it’s night market that stretches almost a third of the city center.
For a small island, a country that is not really a country and branded as a renegade province, there is actually quite a lot to see and do around here. It’s got something for everyone.
Travel is really easy and convenient even if you’re not proficient in Chinese. I give the Taiwanese 10/10 for being traveler friendly.
